Here are some rice paddies in the area near Rasht---low mud terraces laboriously built by hand. Women in this area work alongside men in the fields (somewhat unusual in Iran), and the women also wear more colorful clothes than is normal in the rest of the country.

This has also been an area of political unrest, and we were stopped at a police roadblock (but then waved through).

   This is a rice seller in Rasht. He asked my friend to tell me that all Americans are welcome in Iran, and that he hopes relations between our countries will improve.
