Sick pelicans turning up in winter 08-09

In the last month, hundreds of sick and disoriented brown pelicans have been discovered along the West Coast from Southern California to Oregon. Researchers are still trying to determine the exact cause of the widespread and mysterious illness.

    There was a recent report that did much to explain the loss of water repellancy from proteins produced by red tide micro organisms. The people who were sure that this was caused by the spraying of the pheromone to stop the light brown apple moth are upset that their theory has been challenged.
