From The Onion: God Introduces New Bird

Posted under humor

From The Onion: God…released an estimated 14 million first-run models into the important bird markets of North America, Australia, and Eurasia. “This new bird has it all: slicker wings, a more streamlined beak, better-than-ever capacity for beautiful song. Plus, all of the grace and majesty you’ve come to expect from the Eternal Creator of Life Itself.”

“The bird is back,” God continued, His booming voice parting the very heavens. “And baby, it’s never looked better.”

A parrot that says “Exterminate! Exterminate!”

Posted under bird behavior & humor

The BBC has a nice video of a parrot running through part of its repertoire of sounds.  My favorite is when it says “Exterminate! Exterminate!” like the Daleks on the old “Doctor Who” TV show.  It also does a great little snippet of the Mission Impossible theme.  I can’t figure out how to insert the video on my page, but you can see it here.

Oh my god, it’s a Yellow-Breasted Oystercatcher!

Posted under birds (general) & humor & science

_44413398_yellow_203.jpgAccording to BBC News, researchers in Wales have marked a bunch of oystercatchers with yellow dye so they can keep track of them.  The article says ”Park visitors get quite excited if they spot the birds and are unaware of the project, believing they have spotted a new species.”
